  • Adaptris
    Principal Consultant
    Adaptris Oct 2018 - Present
Once my secondment to DevOps finished, I have resumed my role within the consultancy division at Adaptris - but I have now been recognised formally, owing to my expertise across all sectors of our industry, as the principal consultant within Adaptris.I continue to serve our customers and deliver significant tangible value to our business and to the consultancy team I work with.In addition to technical leadership, I am now taking on first responder responsibilities to RFPs, and thus am often the first technical voice within our push to agree new statements of work. My bredth of knowledge of our product and general deployment architecture and security principles allows me to excel on customer site when required to get deals over the line, and then through continued engagement - deliver services our customers appreciate.I value my team above all others. The needs of the people I work with, and not for, will always come above anything else. I continue to appreciate the faith shown in my by Adaptris and the respect I have built up within our company and with our customer base.
  • Adaptris
    Infrastructure Lead
    Adaptris Feb 2018 - Present
    Heathrow
I was seconded back into the infrastructure team at Adaptris in February this year to provide 6 months of paternity cover to Chris Williams, whom I'd worked for when back in support back in 2006-2008.I was chosen owing to my deep level knowledge of our integration technologies, as well as my experience in information security and architecture design, to be technical lead for worldwide infrastructure, out of our pool of 200+ people within the Proagrica community of Reed Business. My responsibilities in those role included the design and provisioning of servers and infrastructure topologies as well as escalation point for our global infrastructure and support teams. I also provided on call support to our global support function. Our highest level task beyond BAU support was the migration of remaining customer interfaces from legacy datacentres to the cloud. In this case Amazon. During my time in this role I also fully reviewed our entire worldwide infrastructure and presented a 30 page document on antipatterns and technical debt, as well as security risks within our state. I provided a roadmap on how to resolve these decisions - and was the key voice behind a company level strategy shift to focus on quality of service over speed of migration. We have stopped certain migration tasks to focus on proper horizontal deployment of all infrastructure and removal of single points of failure. As these activities lead to two tangible costs - that of additional cloud service provisioning and that of continued hosting of legacy infrastructure - as well as of borrowing integration and consultancy resources to help us deliver - I am proud of my ability to impact this direction shift. I enjoyed my time in this role
  • Adaptris Ltd
    Technical Consultant
Adaptris Ltd Jun 2009 - Present
My focus again shifted at Adaptris in mid 2009 when I formally took on a more senior PSO role within the company. In addition to the integration skillset, I moved into consultancy in the larger scale, dealing with multiple complex environments in a customer facing role in enterprise level architectures.I spent roughly 2 years working very closely with British Telecom, using Actional, Actional Intermediary, Sonic MQ, Sonic ESB and associated technologies. This also led me to pick up a reasonable understanding of Java . The work involved ranged from implementation activities, to deployment (using SDM, Ant) of a complex loosely coupled solution spanning multiple environments.Furthermore, I personally delivered the entire deployment of third party developed code into the production environments of a large government project which leveraged the aforementioned technologies, and since supported them through the transition from pre-live to production states. This was an ongoing engagement over more than 2 years. In this role: Companies I have consulted for include BT, BA, HBOS, Lush, D'Ieteren, PD Ports, and from time to time I also step back in to the F4F side of the business to offer assistance on that side in complex projects - working with multinational chemical and farming companies including Yara, OCI Nitrogen, BOCM Pauls, Merial Animal Health and many more on.Since March 2012 I have been contracted to British Airways as a senior technical consultant, using the ESB and Actional Toolset once again in another large deployment environment encompassing Actional, Progress Sonic MQ/ESB, SDM, Ant/Java custom services for API manipulation and so on. At BA I am a key member of both project delivery and support streams, trusted with access to production hardware/systems. I am presently a technical lead for the monitoring infrastructure provided along with this delivery, retained post go-live of the product to provide production support of the new platform.
  • Adaptris Ltd
    Integrations Consultant
    Adaptris Ltd Jun 2006 - Jun 2009
After the support role I was moved up to an Integration Consultancy position specialising in the Adaptris adapter framework - commonly used by the SOA community as a bridging framework to many back office systems (including SAP, Oracle, AS2 (EBXML), sage, Dynamics, several JMS implementations ie websphere) - to integrate trading communities using a common backbone. Further to this, common connection types such as simple fs, to sftp, smtp, http(/s) and so on.The role included kick off, specification, planning, management of clients - installation and configuration of adapter installs from start to finish. The goal of the individual integrations is to connect a new client to an existing infrastructure for the purposes of B2B integrations. The key customers for this kind of work in Adaptris were the F4F community of customers, thus the agricultural supply chain. I have worked with hundreds of companies in this community including Yara, OCI Nitrogen, Merial Animal Health, BOCM Pauls, BayWa AG, Monsanto and so on.In addition to the deep-rooted knowledge of Adapters, the JMS specification and Progress Sonic MQ: this role honed my abilities with xslt, xml, php, mySQL, mssql - and many more technologies I can't remember to name!
  • Adaptris Ltd
    Technical Support Engineer
    Adaptris Ltd Jun 2006 - Jun 2007
My first role in the company was as a first and secondline support engineer for Adaptris Ltd. I answered the phones, logged and resolved calls, and provided the point of contact between customers with open issues and thirdline support, IE the development team, where necessary. After approximately 12 months in this role I was promoted to the technical consultancy team, as a techincal integrations resource to the F4F Agriculture trading community.
  • First Sight Design Ltd
    Developer
First Sight Design Ltd Oct 2004 - Jun 2006
Freelance web designer and developer for First Sight Design, working in Markup languages and with graphics editing software (Adobe / Macromedia) on specific contracted projects as a junior for approx 18 months. I still occasionally provide business consultancy to First Sight on an ad-hoc basis, focusing far more on development now than design oriented services when applicable
