Artist, software engineer, writer, musician, and lover of the oxford comma. I'm equally at home within Photoshop, FL Studio or PyCharm. To me there's no difference between them. It's all creation. It's all problem solving. It's all just taking building blocks, whether that's the 1s and 0s of computer code, the 12 notes of a scale, or the letters of the alphabet, and putting them together in a way that solves the problem in front of you.I've been a web developer since before Marc Andreesen released Netscape. I remember big blue borders on images and uudecoding content streams, back when CGI was a meaningful term. I learned each new technology and language, always hungry for more. From HTML to JavaScript, PERL to Python, from building websites by hand to frameworks like Vue or React. And architecture, oh architecture! NCSA HTTPd running in a college VMS account to AWS Lambda and serveless hosting. Each new step makes it easier to just write code and get it out there, being useful to people.That's always been my desire and drive: To build things that people find useful. Sometimes those are external, like the data service API I built for Maponics. It gave our customers real-time access to our entire data catalogue in an a la carte way that we'd never had before. Sometimes they're internal - Automated tools for coworkers, making life easier and simpler. Computers should do what computers are good at, so that humans can do what humans are good at. I get no greater pleasure from building tools and applications than when someone says to me "Hey, I used your app and it was really useful!"Every problem placed before me is a challenge and an opportunity. Sure, some are simpler than others, but that doesn't mean I let myself get sloppy when writing Hello World.I code at work and I code for fun. At home, I split my time between all of my pursuits; my art, my coding, my carpentry. I write software for my friends, for organizations, but also for myself. If I need a piece of furniture that I can't find elsewhere, I build it.
