Imaginary Friends are a creative company dedicated to making good things for good people. We believe in visual content with a purpose, through better creative and progressive ideas. Our goal is to create visuals that will take brands and musicians to an international level.Imaginary Friends began in 1999 with Dave Thomson launching as a photographer, music marketing designer and event promoter in Nelson. Working with countless bands and the Nelson City Council on youth focused events and promotion. In 2000 Dave took over the creative direction of Smokefreerockquest (nationwide band competition) and has now been headlining that 19 years. Since then Imaginary has worked directly with Smokefree and the Health Promotion Agency on various visual campaigns. In 2018 Imaginary Friends partnered Smokefree in winning "Best use of Sponsorship" at the NZ Marketing Awards for a visual campaign designed and produced by Imaginary. To date Imaginary friends have created 500+ videos for brands, events and musicians from TVC’s to documentaries.
