I work on several projects as a volunteer. I'm the digital project manager for The Haiku Foundation, an organization that promotes English-language haiku. I manage a WordPress website and other applications for the Foundation. I coordinate THF staff, guest editors, and vendors who supply software services. I maintain a set of manuals to guide volunteers as they create content. I manage WordPress websites for the North Carolina Haiku Society, contemporary haibun online, and Haikupedia. I maintain manuals that describe how volunteers can add content to these sites. I'm the consulting editor for The Coach Gaither Story, a biography that explores a youth basketball coach's career and spiritual journey. I coordinated a team of writers, editors, and photographers to produce the manuscript. I worked with a publishing consultant to turn the manuscript into a book we published on Amazon. The authors and I promote the book by giving presentations to local civic groups. In my most recent project at SAS, I managed a team of three writers who wrote user guides and online help for SAS Viya Data Preparation. This cloud-based suite of applications enables users to access data, prepare it for use in reports and analyses, and explore its lineage. I developed the user guide and online help for SAS Data Explorer. I supervised documentation development for other SAS Viya Data Preparation components. We used Markdown to format the online help. Source files for both the software and online help were managed in GIT. My team was part of the UX design reviews and usability testing conducted by R&D. We commented on UI designs captured in Figma and Jira. We used test environments provided by R&D to conduct usability testing of the software. UX design reviews and usability testing informed our writing and enabled us to help improve the product we were writing about.The development of software and documentation for SAS Viya was managed according to a CI/CD pipeline--Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery, an Agile methodology. The testing team used Jira to manage the development process. I was the Section 508 compliance contact for SAS Publications for at least a year. My team participated in accessibility reviews and testing of our documentation and software.

I was a lead writer for system administration and user guides for Unix-based solutions, including an OCR application for medical billing.

My last assignment at Data General was to update system administration guides for secure DG/UX, a version of UNIX designed to meet the C2 level of security. I participated in reviews that evaluated DG/UX for compliance with the DoD Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria (TCSEC), also known as the Orange Book.

My last assignment was to supervise a six-person documentation team on an 18-million-dollar contract for a jail management system.

I updated system administration guides for Netview, an IBM network monitoring application.

I wrote technical documentation and marketing collateral for Litton security systems and other products.
