Claims Advisor - High Net Worth & Private Clients
Shifting into a technical role in a small dedicated team overseeing subsidence claims from cradle to grave. The team operates on personal claims ownership working on a personal portfolio of 120-140 claims with delegated authority up to £100,000. Clients include, NFU Mutual, Arch, SAGIC, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group and AXA High Net Worth. Several clients are my sole responsibility. Working closely with our Subsidence Loss adjusters, the majority of day to day claims decisions are handled at desk with a personal authority license of up to £15,000. I am responsible for all tasks on my claims and/or preparing a technical summary and recommendation for review by the assigned loss adjuster. I also liaise with Policyholders, Domestic and Commercial Third Parties, and Local Authorities, as well as the various Suppliers, Contractors and Specialists who may be employed to assist with a claim is a central aspect of the role. Regular communication and more formal update meetings with clients is also a necessary factor given the service level expectations that come with High Net Worth Policyholders. Other responsibilities include report writing, invoicing, and team complaint handling.
Team Leader - Major & Complex Loss
In the wake of the March 2020 lockdown, as an experienced major and complex loss professional, I spearheaded a fresh team of claims administrators within the department whose role within Davies was to work with an external agency (Hiscox Ltd.) to process and complete their rapidly building backlog of Business Interruption claims. Working via an online portal, these claims administrators reported to me regarding key claims progress as they deal with both the Hiscox Ltd. backlog and new incoming work via both email and telephone workstreams, many of them working remotely. As part of this role it was my responsibility to monitor, motivate, coach and develop these claims handlers, through both regular one-to-one, objective-based coaching and larger group workshops to provide baseline training on rapidly changing processes, to ensure agility and adaptability within the team. I am also responsible for liaising daily with project leaders at both the external agency and our own company to deliver daily progress reports, communicating with forensic accountants, brokers and policy-holders in sensitive claims cases, and working alongside the client’s quality assurance team to ensure their service requirements are met and exceeded.
Claims Co-Ordinator - Major And Complex Loss
In this role I specialised in independently administrating major and complex loss claims and moving them to closure in a swift and efficient manner for Davies Ltd. I have worked on a number of high-profile projects such as the Grenfell Tower fire inquiry, the Chester Zoo Monsoon Forest fire claim and the Fishlake flooding claims, as well as any and all large-scale loss claims such as those including property damage, theft, third-party motor and business interruption up to two million pounds. My duties included FNOL interviews with policyholders and associated parties, investigative questioning, raising any concerns or irregularities with specific investigatory departments within Davies Ltd., and liaising with loss adjusters working on the individual cases. As part of this, I am well-versed in the data protection, GDPR, freedom of information and confidentiality legislation relevant to this kind of role. I was also responsible for valuations and commissions relative to the replacement of insured items, the appointment of contractors, surveyors and architects on more significant construction claims, and sourcing information from police, fire brigade and forensic sources to make sure that the exact circumstances of the claim are made apparent before any settlement is made. As part of this role, I also devised a systems training manual for our Major and Complex loss administrators and travelled to our bases around the UK to deliver it. This role has afforded me a significant amount of claims experience relative to local councils and their insurance, claims and settlements via Ocaso council property insurance, including cases with Kensington & Chelsea London Borough Council on the Grenfell inquiry, RSA Topmark's national Department for Education Schools insurance, Edinburgh City Council town hall repair project and numerous other local council building claims for housing, public buildings and projects.
Editing And Proofreading Services
Working full-time on a freelance basis, I have undertaken editing and proofreading duties for a large number of clients both commercial and private. I have worked with academic texts both for assessment and journal submission, as well as marketing copy and SEO copy for business clients, web-based sales copy, technical specifications, subject-specific texts and grant-writing materials. In this role I have applied the high-level language skills garnered as part of PhD study as well as adhering to strict deadlines, style guides and TOV specifications; I have also worked on several published projects and a number of funding applications.
Medical Humanities Programme Tutor
Working in a teaching role, I was employed to aid in the delivery of a collaborative module between Keele’s School of Medicine and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, facilitating students to study in a cross-disciplinary manner. On the teaching side, I was responsible for group and one-to-one tuition, lecture planning and delivery, devising mark schemes and marking work apropos that criteria as well as being a part of the four-person team that devised, planned and delivered the module from its inception to completion. On the student-focused side, I liaised with the students in order to ensure that they were adhering to the module guidelines, that they were working efficiently and devising project plans that led to effective patterns of study and attainment.
Outreach Workshop Sessional Tutor
In this role I worked within the HEFCE-funded National Collaborative Outreach Programme at Keele University to develop and lead workshops for groups of children from low educational engagement areas. These workshops were designed to introduce children aged between 11 and 14 to the idea of university study, and as part of the role I prepared and delivered lectures, worked with education professionals to distil information for younger audiences, managed group and individual tasks and ran a feedback system that reported back to the HEFCE.
Debt Management Administrator
In this role, I worked as part of a team at the Balloon Street Office in Manchester. I was responsible for tracking and updating addresses of non-responsive debtors, contacting these debtors and facilitating payment solutions with maximum long term repayment potential. As part of this I worked in an investigative capacity, tracking down individuals by a history of addresses, payments, social media and paper trailing, all the while ensuring that the client and debtor bases worked together to achieve a realistic ongoing payment plan.
