Nasal administration is highly variable, intramuscular administration has been plagued with either exorbitant costs or needle stick potential (diminishing its usage, despite being 94% effective at overdose reversal), and intravenous requires some level of training. The Nova Patch addressed all these factors: a high efficacy, low cost, needle stick safe self-injector.I designed, prototyped, and tested the device, built out an advisory board of medical doctors, engineers, and entrepreneurs, conducted extensive user research and validation, and proceeded to build out a business case before running into the roadblocks of our pharmaceutical field. The medical device investment cost could not be justified by the projected returns, and that was that. I learned an extensive amount about the medical field, won some awards, met some incredible people, and did some awesome engineering.
