I am currently developing an enterprise data management solution utilising cloud technology (Azure) for the Communicable Disease Control Directorate as the Department of Health Western Australia. This will enable Public Health professionals focus on delivering expertise in their clinical domains. By alleviating the burden of data management involved in sourcing, extracting and collating data (needed to inform tactical and strategic decision), this aids in focussing human capitol on high value activities. I am leading my team in collaborating with SMEs through substantial business process redesign needed to implement automated and efficient ETL processes that encodes business knowledge and domain expertise in transparent and uniform logic. Joining BHP under contract with the Standardised Works team, my remit was to collate data from the organisation’s AWS managed PostgreSQL back-end for ingestion into Snowflake. From this warehoused enterprise data, I am developed conformed data entities that form the foundation of a semantic data model. The data model is wired to existing Power BI reports in order to eliminate the collections of CSV files that currently drive these reports. This business improvement enables near-real-time reporting, consolidates and reconciles duplicate datasets, improves data governance and empower citizen data scientists to develop their own needs-based reporting solutions. While this role enabled me to deploy well-honed skills, it has also necessitated the acquisitions of a range of new skills. Working for the Global Materials (assets and supply chain) division, I have been contracted to develop the organisation’s Microsoft Power Platform capability. After assessing an array of existing Power BI reports and well as a prototype reporting solution, I created the data architecture to consolidate numerous overlapping datasets. This has involved developing a star schema, data pipelines and processes to orchestrate the data management. As part of my validation I identified logical errors in several existing reports and to overcome these, I worked with SMEs to develop the methodology so the data could be present in its proper context. Through this collaboration I established trust with the data consumer which fostered confidence in the data, governance protocols and contributed to developing a better understand the client needs. This allows me to deliver artefacts that better meets the operational and strategic needs of the business and reduced the risk of data silos spawned by uncontrolled ad hoc reports. In this role I established the Business Intelligence Unit for the Business Performance department of PathWest Laboratory Medicine. To support the organisation’s BI capability, I implemented an Enterprise Architecture primarily (EA) based on the Microsoft BI Stack. Collating data from disparate sources including pathology, patient administration, human resource and general ledger data, I developed case matching routines to establish end to end linkage across information system boundaries. By utilising an N-Tier Architecture I was able to ensure the uniform application of business logic, simplified access and governance protocols, eliminate silos and data islands while ensuring data reconciled across the agency (SSoT). By performing these value adding activities, I was able to ameliorate organisational boundaries, transform operational data into strategic assets and empower business users to make informed and proactive decisions based on real time data. Supporting the information needs for this large area health service, I developed and maintained performance reports for business managers and the executive team.
