The flexibility and breadth of responsibility that I was provided in my role allowed me to experiment, innovate, and improve on processes and outputs. Techdinamics became an incredibly valuable training ground for me to apply what I was learning in my classes, my internships, and life to a real business.

Working for my dream company for summer was just that: a dream. The caliber of people and experiences at McKinsey were unlike what I had ever experienced before. Over my 7 weeks, I was taught by an incredible team while helping to solve real-life issues. I learned the importance of being around people who make you want to be better, and of being engaged in work that makes you feel fulfilled when you go to bed at night.

My time with the Cougar Consulting Group taught me about problem-solving, and how to accomplish a task as a team. In many ways, I felt this was an opportunity to apply everything I had learned during my on-campus internship with PMA so I would make fewer mistakes and make a stronger impact. I was paired with an incredible team of very impressive students who differed in so many ways from me in terms of what they were studying, their life experiences, and the way they think. It was completely refreshing to hear so many new ideas about problems that seemed to really only have one path of solutions in my mind. I made some great friends, learned a great deal about tertiary financing, and strengthened the professional and social skills I hope to master someday.

Getting to better understand the blood of business gave me a much better perspective on how companies operate and how management decisions impact company progress. I learned about being proactive and what it takes to thrive in an environment where you don't have a formal job description. My time with PigeonShip opened my eyes to the beauty of small business.

Kodiak Cakes was my first true, off-campus, professional internship. And I loved it! What I learned most at Kodiak Cakes (besides everything I took away about excel, modeling, and finance) was that I will forever want to work in a place full of excitement, fun, and great people. This is a company full of people who are excited to get to work each day, and it's contagious. I learned about being a financial analyst on a small, tight-knit team under a phenomenal manager who taught me to improve. I was given incredible freedom to work with other departments, company executives, and customers, to learn about the inner workings of a business and how different departments work together. I found myself falling in love with the brand, and even caught on to the running and sports over lunch. After wrapping up my internship, I joined the company as a part-time brand ambassador with my wife so we could meet more great people and share delicious pancakes and products with the world.

PMA was my first taste of a professional business work environment with a sophisticated team, stretching deliverables, and an opportunity to practice what I was learning in my business classes. I remember learning about team roles, and project management, and what a Gantt chart is. Everyone in the room was smarter than me, and I began to realize the benefit of stretching yourself and not allowing yourself to get comfortable.At the end of the day, our project turned out to be far from what we initially anticipated, and that wasn't a bad thing! I learned about managing change, being open to new ideas, and being willing to throw away hours of work for the sake of a better solution.

GreenWorkz was my highschool start-up and my first real taste of business and hard work. A friend and I decided we wanted to be our own bosses and learned through long 60+ hour weeks what it meant to run a business. These years were my first experiences talking to strangers, knocking on doors, issuing quotes, invoicing for labor, and managing temporary employees.Looking back now, there is so much the highschool version of me didn't know about how to run a business, but alongside hard-work and professionalism, the greatest thing I learned was how good it felt to succeed. We were lucky to ultimately have served dozens of customers and really grow our operations through determination and trial-and-error. It feels good to build something of your own.
