I work at Vision Australia Radio on a voluntary and part-time basis as a presenter and newspaper reader. During the three-hour program on Saturday mornings, articles from The Australian, Herald Sun and The Age are read out in their entirety. I choose the articles to be read along with a selection of music for the program. I also participated in a five minute crime mystery series aired by the station. I had responsibility for some internal and external communications for Catholic primary and secondary schools in the Diocese of Sale, including the management of media issues. I also managed the promotion of Catholic Education Week and wrote articles for a series of advertising features in regional newspapers.

I wrote articles for the fortnightly magazine, Kairos, which is distributed to parishes in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Human interest stories that focused on prominent Melbourne Catholics and visiting bishops, archbishops and other religious.

I worked for three Directors of Catholic Education, handling media enquiries about Catholic schools and worked on various publications, including Catholic Education Today, a quarterly colour magazine that was distributed to Catholic school communities throughout the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Assisting principals with media issues and promoting Catholic school achievement was an enjoyable aspect of the role.

I worked in the Communications area where I handled media enquiries, prepared media releases and wrote speeches for the Education Minister.I also spent two years as Editor/Writer of the Education Department newspaper, Victorian School News, which was distributed fortnightly to all government schools throughout Victoria. The publication contained good news stories about teacher and student achievement in government schools and teacher positions.

I had responsibility for promoting government policies and initiatives to the media and the wider community. I was a press secretary for various Government Ministers and departments, including Education, Tertiary Education, Regional Development, Industry and Small Business.

I worked at numerous Melbourne radio stations as a news reader and on-road journalist, including 3MP, 3AK, 3UZ, 3DB, FOX-FM, 3KZ and 3GL (Geelong). I covered some major news stories, including the 1987 stock market crash, the Burwood triple murders and the Hoddle Street shootings which included continuous news reports and live crosses from the incident scene to a presenter in the studios.

I worked as a journalist in a variety of fields, including police, the courts, general news and sub-editing. Coverage of the tragic Ash Wednesday bushfires in SA was a career highlight in my early years as a journalist. I began my newspaper career in Adelaide and moved to Melbourne to manage the Adelaide News bureau from the Herald Sun building in Flinders Street, a position I held for two years. The experiences gained in writing and communciations generally were invaluable.
