Fenix Fitness was founded on the back of the realisation that control of the brand was required for control of the future. While required to pay a significant amount to be realised from the franchise, Fenix then allowed a new brand to be born with member experience and high staff buy in the foundations of its success. In the following 5 years, Fenix expanded to 10 clubs with a membership base of over 35,000. Fenix quickly became an employer of choice and set the benchmark for member experience while also creating direct debit and personal training model that has been replicated across the Fitness industry. Fenix was sold to Ardent Leisure for $60.9M in Sept 2012

I built my first gym at Karingal Shopping centre Victoria as a 29 year old. Taking a gamble, signing a $7 million dollar, 10 year lease with the dream that this would be Australia’s most successful fitness club, quickly became true. My work ethic, drive, and relentless improvement mindset, resulted in this business setting new records with its membership growth and profitability. Fast forward 12 months, with a membership base of 4000 members and 35 personal trainers, Karingal Genesis became Victoria’s largest and most profitable health club in Victoria with an EBITDA of $1.7m in its second year of trade.
