I am an object-oriented, “test-infected” developer who uses the standard design principles and strategies to promote these business interests in software: * Steady timelines - Test-first means errors are caught right away, before getting lost among multiple changes, so they’re easier to fix and less unpredictable time is wasted in the tangles. * Code comprehension - Unit and integration tests provide executable manuals for programmers to see how the individual parts work and how they are intended to be used within the business scenarios * Uncompromised quality - When test scenarios are clearly defined and everything has been created to prove that they meet those needs, a business can use the software to move ahead fearlessly. That's the kind of mindset you can expect to find in me, and reflected in my work.My more recent experience includes .NET (Framework and Core) MVC web development; for example I have developed workflows by combining .NET web UI and REST microservices with FlowGear and Microsoft Flow (aka Power Automate) cloud-based integration tools. In the past, I have also been a Lotus Notes Domino Application Developer and Java Programmer; in fact I was vendor-certified in those technologies. I did: * Lotus Notes Java agents, Swing GUIs, helper applications, applets, used some LotusScript-to-Java (LS2J), and CORBA. * HTML, JavaScript/ECMAScript, including raw AJAX techniques. * XML and JSON * Enterprise Integration, reporting and application programming. * Software Design including UML * Design pattern implementation * Tool skills from that time included Notes Designer, Administrator. Eclipse, WSAD/RAD, Teamstudio Analyzer, Configurator, Script Browser. Visio, TinyUML.

ConsultantTeksystems Apr 2006 - Dec 2009Hanover, Md, UsAt HONDA David Alkire supported, repaired, designed and enhanced a number of enterprise-connected Lotus Notes/Domino applications. Inventions and accomplishments include:Money-saving improvements: For DCMS, which is a large multi-application system used in numerous manufacturing plants by nearly 1,000 assigned users, the customer estimated that the candidate's enhancements saved HONDA almost $250,000, much more than the cost of the project. Some of the following were included.Extension to Notes Client capability: In order to provide a dynamic switchboard-style controller to the users, he created a multi-threaded process with a Swing front-end, a Java agent with a GUI. This is a new ability that could not readily be achieved with native Lotus Notes controls alone.Browser-based feature sets that listen: For a data-heavy web front-end requirement, he created an AJAX MVC framework and maintained an orderly ECMAScript (JavaScript) code base. Here he successfully implemented the model-view-controller pattern, to provide web GUI controls that could listen for data coming in from the server asynchronously. Helper application for server-to-mainframe communication: He created a Java-based MQ-trigger-to-Agent Interface, which is used very frequently, very reliably, helping the application consume messages from the mainframe sometimes a thousand times per day.Newsletter Salvage: Inheriting a very long-running, memory-leaking, server-crashing process that produced hard-to-read output for end-users, the candidate re-wrote the Java agent to run in a few minutes and send attractive newsletters to its readers around the globe.Cleaning Agents: He invented a fast, centralized way to control and execute purging and archiving activities across multiple Notes applications on a nightly basis, via a Java agent.Notes/Domino 6.5 Upgrade: Participated in testing essential applications for the upgrade from 5 to 6.5; took corrective action for some incompatibilities. -
Programmer/AnalystAes/Pheaa Feb 2002 - Apr 2006At AES, David Alkire was involved in a wide variety of development projects and support activities, including:Compass Production Inquiry (CPI): He designed, built and supported a Notes Client application for guiding and tracking inquiries. Here he designed a workflow engine and a document locker before document locking was already built into Notes.Completion of Change Management System: By refining some techniques he had originally developed for CPI, he created a way in which different departments could have different work flows and yet share the same application source. Also for this, he provided a nightly rich-text-table reporting agent mixing LotusScript with Java using LS2J.Remote Client Issues: The candidate built a high-volume, web-based workflow/collaboration application that served as the primary means of communication between remote clients and in-house staff. Here he employed XML, XSL-FO and JavaScript to provide dynamic features. For example, users could run a report then sort the results by different columns without re-loading data. The Application Portfolio: He designed this tool to accommodate sweeping organization-related name changes, to help all of the other notes applications continue to function even where Domino's Administration Process could not be applied. This resulted in a special inventory of all of the applications and their name-related dependencies. It integrated with the Teamstudio Configurator API in order to do find-replace tasks within “mixed text” and generate a Configurator Report when necessary.Assistance to WebSphere developers: Provided advice for Enterprise Java developers who needed to access Lotus Notes data via CORBA.Project called “Opportunities”: Was involved in a planning and requirements-gathering effort to upgrade, implement and support SalesLogix 6.2, an MS-based CRM solution. Created a VBScript framework to use Lotus Notes emailing functionality from within SalesLogix.
