I have over 20 years UK construction experience, commencing as a Site Engineer and working up to my current role as a Senior Construction Manager. I have successfully delivered a variety of different projects in different environments ranging from airport refurbishments and new builds, atomic weapon establishment sites, theater refurbishments and student accommodations, to large civil engineering projects building new sewage treatment and LNG gas storage facilities. As well as being technically competent, I have developed exceptional management, organizational and communication skills to carry out my more recent roles. I regularly deal with, and have good relationships with both my direct staff and subcontractors, but also Clients, local councils, interested stakeholders, the public and many more and have to modify my delivery to suit the audience. I pride myself on being a team player and will take responsibility for carrying out works that nobody else wants to do, which are often the most difficult sections of the job, or most high risk. Part of this is that I lead by example and I do not ask anybody to do anything I wouldn't be prepared to do myself, and part is that I love a challenge and achieving something difficult that I've had to work hard for. I have even been criticized by my management for failing to acknowledge my achievements in getting work and projects completed as I put it down to the team effort. I consider myself to be very loyal to individuals, teams and companies that have treated me with respect. I am also a fast learner, and am always keen to learn new skills. In addition to standard company courses I have carried out additional training to be able to do some of the more demanding technical and responsible roles on UK construction sites including temporary works coordinator and appointed person for lifting operations. One of my proudest work related moments was being given a job prior to interview, following a two year planned career break, based on recommendations from contractors, clients and stakeholders all of which I'd previously worked with at Heathrow Airport. I think this demonstrates, that as well as being very technically competent, that my attitude to working collaboratively and treating people with honesty and respect is appreciated by others and makes projects run smoother, more successfully and more profitably.
