I was instrumental in transforming ForgeRock’s product into a SaaS offering and shepherding best practices in Site Reliability, Container Orchestration, HA, DevX, GitOps, and Declarative Application Management.As part of the team, I architected, developed, & maintained production Go apps for web & infrastructure management. I lead the conversion from imperative to declarative Kubernetes configuration.Acted as a mentor on Kubernetes architecture, best practices, workflows, and operators. I simplified the developer experience and CI/CD pipelines by enabling rapid testing/feedback loops, utilizing Kustomize, GitOps, and Declarative Application Management.I developed threat models, incorporating enterprise security best practices, as well as architected cloud multitenancy models focusing on security perimeters, manageability, scalability, reliability, and cost effectiveness.

I contributed architectural insights that improved scalability and reduced statefulness and code complexity in a distributed app we built that automates the onboarding of projects into CI and CD pipelines.I built and evaluated Canary deployments in Spinnaker and Harness.io, and demoed the pros and cons of each.By writing a Kubernetes Operator that automates the management of one or a few Ingress objects via many Service objects, and combining it with the external-dns Operator, I enabled development teams to self-service shared-ingress and DNS records using their distributed Service manifests; making ingress a cinch and saving thousands in costs.

Responsible for service uptime & operations, development efficiency, & contributing a site reliability & operations perspective to design time; I led the team on cluster aware application design, concurrency safety, building health checks & metrics into applications, & development & testing in containers.I built Compli's first Kubernetes clusters, developing objects which automate over 1000 containers in production. I chose & successfully implemented systems for everything from monitoring, log shipping, & CI/CD, to message queuing, distributed locks, & the container orchestration system itself. The metrics system ingests over 2000 samples per second.Offering infrastructure solutions wherever they might improve over application solutions, I implemented zero downtime deploys for replicated & non-replicated apps, designed & implemented Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery pipelines, & managed legacy systems migrations.

I fulfilled a wide range of responsibilities at CTI, managing Colocation at 4 Data-Centers, (hardware & networking, host & virtual machine setup), Disaster Recovery, full stack redundancy & failover, monitoring/alerting, database replication, & security to name a few.I developed several open source Capistrano plugins (RubyGems) for things like: VM lifecycle management using LibVirt, setup of PostgreSQL Streaming Replication in Docker, & generic app deployment in Docker, (66,000+ combined downloads to date).I developed Metasploit automation software for internal penetration testing; scanning systems for vulnerabilities, & the web for newly discovered exploits, logging & alerting on the results.From performing code reviews, sharing best practices, & generating custom analytics, to building an in-house container orchestration system, I helped CTI modernize their development & infrastructure.

At Seedbox Hosting I managed 600+ Linux Bittorrent machines & their related customers. I interfaced with customers directly, investigated problems, developed configuration management solutions, performed market research, & pushed updates to internal & customer facing websites.Starting out in customer support, I learned quickly & worked up to Senior DevOps Engineer, & later part owner-operator. From responding to & investigating outages, to developing new software releases, I helped Seedbox Hosting reduce costs & stay successful in an increasingly competitive market.Successes include implementing a system for distributing private infrastructure assets (E.G. VM images) internally via BitTorrent, automating hardware benchmarks for predicting hard drive failure, & designing a system for upgrading/replacing VMs without losing customer data.
