As part of this announcement, Industry Capability Network (ICN) received extra funding through the Supplier Access to Major Projects (SAMP) program for the appointment of national industry specialists. Called National Sector Manager’s, the primary focus for this role is the promotion of competitive Australian suppliers to major projects and the communication of opportunities to SMEs. The National Sector Manager will take on a coordination role within ICN and be instrumental in developing their sector within Australia. ICN appointed Dr David Anderson as the National Sector Manager – NBN. In this role, David will be working with government, industry, and local suppliers to help maximise Australian and New Zealand content for the national rollout of the National Broadband Network.This will include helping with the coordination of equipment, services, and installation companies’ registration on ICN’s supplier database.David’s role is designed to help NBN Co and he will work with the ICN offices nationally to:• liaise with NBN Co • identify competitive and capable suppliers for NBN Co • identify opportunities for local SMEs to work with prime contractors• help prime contractors with Australian Industry Participation (AIP) Plans• help prime contractors with industry briefing sessions.
