About David Hayes

David is an Independent Research Consultant and the founder of Hayes Research Services. He specialises in analysis, evaluation and research concerning personal finance, wellbeing and vulnerable consumer groups. Prior to this David was a member of the Personal Finance Research Centre for seven years, and retains an honorary fellowship there.David also works as a Teaching Fellow in the School of Geographical Sciences, and an Honorary Research Fellow in the Personal Finance Research Centre; both at the University of BristolDavid is a highly-experienced social scientist and senior researcher, specialising in quantitative methodology, research evaluation and analysis. He has extensive experience of analysing large-scale survey data, using a range of techniques including multilevel modelling and cluster analysis, and has particular expertise in evaluations, logistic regression analysis and the design, implementation and analysis of quantitative surveys. He has a wealth of both process and impact evaluation experience. David is highly-skilled in effectively disseminating his research and analysis though a range of mediums.His current primary fields of research include the links between mental wellbeing and debt, financial education, and the financial and wider wellbeing and quality of life among the older population. David is currently involved in a major project reviewing evidence and evaluations of financial education programmes for the Money Advice Service as part of their National Financial Capability Strategy.David has co-authored a number of reports and papers, including recent projects for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills; the Money Advice Service; Citizens Advice; and the Trades Union Congress. He has acted as a consultant to the OECD, nad has been invited to speak at internationally renowned events to share his expertise.David also teaches at the University of Bristol on several Masters Programmes.

Social Statistics, ‘Environmental and Policy Management’ MSc Geographical Science Course, University of Bristol. This was a new course during 2011/12, and I was responsible for the design, budget, and implementation of this core module, which is still running successfully with increasing numbers for every year including 2014/15. • 2011 – 2014. ‘Access to Bristol’ geography stream– responsible for the instigation and facilitation of this annual widening participation (WP) course ran over six sessions to give potential university students from non-traditional backgrounds a taste of university life.• 2009-present. In addition to this main course, I have also run an extra session for the Sutton Trust summer school in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and will do so again in 2014. This is a session delivered to c.60 students from ‘non-traditional’ WP backgrounds. Previous teaching• I have taught, co-taught and assisted on numerous courses in the past including: multilevel modelling, regression techniques, questionnaire design, report writing, quantitative analysis, spatial econometrics and various software packages (R, Minitab, MlwiN), to classes varying in size from 5-150 people.
