As CEO of RANZCO, I see my role as a key steward for the profession. Through my background in scientific research, commercialisation of medical technologies and as operational executive for a medical research institute and with formal qualifications in science, business management and corporate governance, I have the skills to lead RANZCO in a rapidly evolving environment. RANZCO has been through many changes during my time as CEO. We are now more than ever recognised for our leadership in ophthalmic education, standards setting, advocacy for patients and the profession, and leadership training. Having grown up with a surgeon as a father, I have from a young age appreciated the effort required by all Fellows to not only do their day job but give back in many other ways to improve the health of the public. Through my own volunteering work I understand that there is always more to do and never enough time. I try to bring a sensible balance to RANZCO so that we are not demanding too much of our volunteer educators, experts, committee members and staff while we strive to advance the profession and equity of access to eye care.I am interested in how to efficiently and effectively run an organisation in the busy world in which we operate. I’m interested in how we can all maintain a good work-life balance by providing appropriate levels of professional stimulation, variety and work flexibility. I am interested in what motivates people to work for a not-for-profit, relatively small organisation where opportunities for advancement can be limited.Outside work I like to spend time on my bike, usually chasing my son who is now way faster than me, or going for a run with the dog.
