Assistant Psychologist
Assistant psychologist based at the low secure forensic mental health unit at St. Ann's hospital, Poole.
Assistant Psychologist
I began a clinical role at Antelope House, an adult mental health inpatient unit in Southampton, following the service evaluation role. During this position I was responsible for facilitating group sessions with service users, teaching skills and alternative coping strategies which were informed by various models; CBT, DBT, CFT. Group content included anxiety management, compassionate internal dialogue, emotional coping skills and mindfulness sessions. Additionally I assisted in enhancing the psychologically minded approach to the wider hospital staff, by bringing in other staff to co-facilitate sessions and supervise them in this activity. Furthermore, I maintained the clinical databases and evaluated progress of group via clinical outcome measures.
Assistant Psychologist
I worked as an assistant psychologist helping to promote and evaluate a psychologically informed model to mental health applied across four mental health hospitals. The Intensive Support Programme (ISP) asserts a recovery model of mental health based on psychological treatment in the acute stage over a typical medical framework. ISP promotes a multi disciplinary approach embedded in psychological principles of third-wave therapies. I supported sustainability of the programme across sites, facilitated group sessions, creating materials and trained staff in data capture. I evaluated the service and acted as lead author for three research publications which are currently at various stages of the publication process.
Rehabilitation Assistant
I worked with service users who have psychological and physical impairments brought on by acquired brain injury. The aim of the rehabilitation assistant is to build independence and aid with functioning so that the service user can build skills in which to act independently in preparation for transitioning into the community.I acted as a key worker, conducted 1 to 1 sessions with multiple service users and worked alongside the psychology team in order to conduct assessments and implement interventions. In this position I have worked in a multidisciplinary team including health care assistants, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and psychologists in order to support service users with behavioural and psychological impairments.
Research Assistant
As well as my voluntary research at Bournemouth university, I additionally undertook paid research at the institute. This research was being conducted in collaboration with Poole hospital and aimed to redevelop their current map design in order to improve efficiency in terms of visitor speed and accuracy in navigating around the hospital. The research explores principles of wayfinding and implements these on new map design which has lead to vastly superior navigation accuracy. Poole hospital has since implemented our map designs across the hospital.
Voluntary Research Assistant
Worked as a voluntary research assistant examining the relationship between working memory and visual cognition. The research utilised a Dikablis mobile eye tracker along with various psychometric measures including an operation span and visual pattern test for working memory, and the WASI for the intelligence quotient measure.
Hr And Relations Officer
Worked within a project team implementing a new HR and payroll system controlled electronically by council employees. I manned the help desk, emails, took minutes, gave presentations, used all manner of office software and met targets of the project. High levels of organizational and analytical skills were required.Left after project close in order to complete my MSc.
