In a freelance capacity I lend my communications and PR experience to developing PR outreach strategies, identifying media targets and planning and drafting PR documents including pitches, op-eds and press releases. Current clients include global cyber security organizations, an AI empowered national fence contracting marketplace, and an Internet of Things integration expert.

As account executive, I developed and carried out communications strategies for clients, typically responsible for 6 to 8 clients at any given time. My work included securing earned media spots in publications and helping clients develop op-eds that I then placed with media contacts. This provided clients with wider audiences and opportunities to grow their businesses. When Business Insider listed me among among “21 rising stars in tech public relations” the CEO of Elkordy Global Strategies, Mary Elkordy was quoted saying "Ayer has become a kind of stealth weapon for this agency, ghostwriting effective op-eds, guest stories, and pitches around complicated technical concepts."

As Earth Day Network’s research communications program associate and later campaign manager, I wore many hats and provided key services in research and writing, pitching ideas for campaigns and helping make them a reality. For instance, I pitched the idea of an environmental teach-in on Washington D.C. That pitch turned into the March for Science, an immensely successful event that drew over 100,000 participants to the National Mall despite it raining all day. Two years later and many of the prominent democratic candidates for president have embraced a radical green new deal to protect our environment.In 2018 I worked in close partnership with VP for Global Earth Day Valeria Merino to shape the End Plastic Pollution campaign. I personally created much of the communications content including weekly campaign emails and blogs, press releases, and op-eds. I also designed, wrote, and produced the widely lauded Protect our Species Primer and Action Toolkit, a comprehensive guide to the various aspects of the problems of plastic pollution and how individuals and groups can minimize their impact on the issue. I twice represented Earth Day Network at the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties on Climate Change. There I attended and participated in official side events, networked to secure partnerships on behalf of EDN, and manned our exhibition booth.

- Co-lead national research project into State-by-State k-12 environmental science education standards soon to be published by EDN http://www.earthday.org/campaigns/education/global-environmental-climate-literacy-campaign/- Researched and analyzed the six entrants for the 2014 Hult Prize and reported to one of five judges/panelists who selected one of the teams to win $1 million and support from the Clinton Global Initiative for their start-up.- Managed and posted on blog site, wrote copy.
