Humans working in technology are getting smarter and smarter. Just when you think we have seen the top, we blink our eyes and find ourselves looking up. That next best thing is yesterday's old news and tomorrow there will be new discoveries that will surprise us yet again. How as a technologist do we keep up? How do we transform what we have into what we need? If we can transform our technology from a post legacy, tightly coupled, capital intensive model into a model that is modern, loosely coupled, scalable, repeatable and durable we can reduce expenses, position ourselves to quickly take advantage of new technologies, eliminate expensive service contracts, licenses and even reduce or maintain current head count without sacrificing quality or production. As an IT manager we must work smarter and not necessarily harder to not only keep our companies successful but just as importantly, keep our employees happy by working as a Team on initiatives designed to keep us moving forward. The better we work as a Team achieving success, the better all can enjoy a good work/life balance. This is my daily goal.
