My position at AES required me to project manage failure investigations, non-destructive and destructive inspections of pipelines, pipeline support structures, fittings and associated components. My main responsibilities primarily included, but were not limited to: Liaising with clients to produce detailed technical proposals and costs; production of site specific risk and method statements; managing and organising technical teams and operating within a team of multi-disciplined engineers to produce final reports and project specific recommendations.Furthermore, I interpreted the results of the pipeline inspections, which utilised a range of inspection procedures such as ultrasonic testing, pipe penetrating radar and magnetic flux leakage. The results of these inspections allowed me to then produce technical reports detailing the integrity of the pipeline. This involved understanding corrosion patterns and assessing the applicable dynamic and static loads. The structural integrity assessment of the pipeline provides the client with the likelihood of failure occurring through either leakage, bending or fracture initiation from a single defect, which I undertook using my knowledge of relevant code of practices and design standards such as BS7910 and BS1295. From the conclusions of the assessment I was then able to produce recommendations for the client, to further identify, arrest or remediate any corrosion, or damage, and thus prolong the life of the asset.In addition to commercial activities I was also involved in the development of company inspection equipment (MFL technology).
