KDR was a company started by myself and my wife at the time. While I was working for the factory I was building rotary engines for other employees at Mazda for race weekends. After being laid off from Mazda I was getting 3-4 engine requests , a week so from there KDR Performance was born. The company started out in a 2600 sq ft building with just Kim and I building engines and installing them. Within three years we had moved twice to a 9000 sq ft building and had hired two more employees. KDR was growing with the help of internet sales, engines and transmissions were being shipped across all 48 states and Canada and at most times there were thirty five to forty vehicles outside waiting on repairs. At this time one of my friends, Darrel Stein, a business owner and racer, was also our mentor in the business world being especially helpful with the sales side of KDR, Darrel was invaluable many times when it came to growing the business. Starting out as a simple mechanic to working for the factory to owning my own business, Darrel had many times advised better ways to keeping the company moving forward. After eight years my wife and I went our separate ways and Darrel agreed to buy her shares of KDR. At this point Darrel and I agreed to change the name of the company to Speed 1 and it was moved into the 12000 sq ft building it resides in to this day.
