Completed a doctoral thesis in political science. The dissertation studies processes of democratic exclusion, in which rights of political participation are secured for certain segments of the population but denied to others. The dissertation focuses on democratic exclusion in the American context, but places this in a comparative perspective alongside cases in the United Kingdom and France.

Coordinate the activities of the DCC Planning Committee for 2012-13 on Constitution-Making.

Competitively selected doctoral research fellow. Responsibilities included the organization of the year-long Penn DCC Graduate Workshop, as well as additional activities for the Faculty Workshop series and the Program. The fellowship included all tuition, fees, and health coverage, as well as a year's stipend. It additionally included a research grant, which was used primarily to finance archival research in the United States, United Kingdom, and in France.

Competitively selected fellowship. Responsible for organizing the year-long Andrew W. Mellon Sawyer Seminar, on the theme of Power Sharing in Deeply Divided Places.
