Founded in Australia in 2017, Mission Systems Pty Ltd is a research and development house focusing on IP generation and commercialisation in the fields of robotics, sensing and perception in the air, sea and land domains. Mission Systems aims to apply the very best and latest in academic research and theory to real-world problems in diverse markets.

At CiSRA, I was team leader for several projects engaging small numbers of highly talented researchers solving problems in rough surface scattering, image processing, spectral estimation, image sensor design and optical propagation modelling.

Stemming from my post-Doctoral work at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, I joined the MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering with the objective of merging my interests in ocean sensing and robotics. During this time, I was Co-PI with Professors Henrik Schmidt and John Leonard on research projects involving autonomous underwater vehicles and various modes of sensing, imaging, navigation and communication. I was responsible for coordinating the MIT contributions to three large international experiments, mentoring graduate students and liaising with vehicle manufacturers and other participating institutions. As a result of my extensive operational and systems integration experience with Bluefin Robotics vehicles, I consider myself an expert in AUV operations and associated technologies such as power systems, navigation, communications and human factors.In the Spring of 2004, I lectured MIT graduate course 13.811: Advanced Structural Dynamics and Acoustics with Professors Henrik Schmidt and Tomasz Wierzbicki.

During my time at The Scripps Institution of Oceanography, I worked primarily on acoustic sensing problems involving matched-field processing and geo-acoustic inversion from mobile platforms. I completed a graduate course in computational propagation, gaining familiarity with a variety of propagation models, including spectral, ray, modal and parabolic equations. I also extended some of my earlier thesis work on Bayesian image reconstruction to matched-field processing and sonar beam-forming.

While at ANSTO, I undertook a variety of software and hardware engineering projects related to acoustic imaging, non-destructive evaluation and computer aided tomography (CAT). My major achievements included the design and deployment of radiation-hardened, remotely-controlled instrumentation for inspecting the HIFAR reactor core. During this time, I also completed a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, which dealt with the mathematical foundations of image formation from wavefields. The major outcomes of this research were new approaches to image reconstruction from sparse data, and the successful demonstration of a novel 2-D acoustic array enabling 3-D image reconstruction of scattering objects.
