Finding myself in times of severe disparity between omnipresent, normative rhetoric – heralding what has to be done – and the seemingly collective inaction (#don´tlookup) in response to it, I am working on productive educational strategies to engage with the consecutive questions to the big transformation trajectories: What tools and methods do the disciplines of Urban Design and Architecture have to offer to engage with climate mitigation and adaptation?  What tools and methods can be taken from other professions to help practitioners? What can be done for and by students in the field to expedite inclusive, equitable and ecologically sustainable urban and rural models? How can it be done? It is important to emphasize here that despite the normative and very ambitious goals largely set by the global scientific community, we find ourselves in a phase of massive irritation – a phase where the old state of affairs is in question while the new order has not yet crystallized. Through the last years of teaching, we have witnessed therefore, that a sound methodology focused on infrastructure through the duality of research orientation and speculative design, can help students to engage with complex, opaque, and overwhelming urban realities of 21st century. Despite the wicked nature [5] of the subject and the problems themselves, we also have to find methods to break things down in order to incentivize young professionals to become an agent and proponents for their care and design.
