I am Lecturer in Biosciences in the School of Biosciences at the University of Kent. The focus of my research is chemical biology, in particular the exploitation of chemistry to understand biology and modify the properties of biomolecules. My research is based on previous success in the development of heterotrifunctional linkers for protein modification and is focussed on utilising biorthogonal chemistry and biochemistry to develop methodologies for the site-specific poly-modification of proteins. This work offers significant benefit for the synthesis of biotherapeutic agents, such as antibody drug conjugates (ADC), and labelled proteins for biochemical/biophysical analysis. Industrial and PhD/postdoctoral research has allowed acquisition of skills in microbiology, chemistry and chemical biology, in particular: recombinant protein synthesis and purification, synthetic organic chemistry, chemical biology, atomic force microscopy and biochemical assay development. This research has led to experience in the synthesis, modification and purification of proteins, peptides and small molecules from nM to M scale as well as the in vitro formation of amyloid assemblies. Specialties: Organic synthesis, Chemical Biology, Bioconjugation, Protein synthesis/purification, Biochemical assay development and Contract resource management
