Found it hard to find work and decided to pursue my passion in Math tutoring again. Someone suggested that I apply at Aspire Academic Coaching. And I did.Application took a week, because I had take-home math tests on Algebra and Calculus. I had to watch out, because if I rushed, I would get the tests wrong like the first time. I got a second chance. I passed the Algebra test, but missed the Calculus test by 1 question. Both tests required a 90% pass rate.Turned out the person who hired me was not to be my supervisor, Aspire was sold to someone else. Was the last one hired by the previous person for a 1-year contract. At first I had 1-lesson tutoring from different clients, until more lessons stuck some different clients.After my contract with Aspire I was hired by AIA Engineers, LTD.. Working at AIA was different - it was a satellite office - just my supervisor and I. AIA is a DBE firm in Virginia, which is why most firms would want to work with us. Marketing involved sending boilerplate emails, finding, and updating contacts in an Excel file.Light pole inspection involved measurements at the base of the pole, checking if any washers were missing, if the pole was leaning, and hammering bolts to see if they were loose. If you are afraid of bugs you might not like this!Bridge inspections were in southwest Virginia about 7 hours away. My supervisor and I took turns driving a pick-up truck. And when I got there - I sometimes smashed concrete parts of the bridge with a hammer and all the while checking for any spalling and/or delamination. Shooting lasers to check distance clearances for trucks going under bridges was fine, but I had to watch out for oncoming traffic. And of course, I looked forward to the food on those trips!I eventually returned to my passion in Math and tutored a lot of kids in K-12 math depending on what was needed. Sometimes it could be very demanding, but I liked it and it was close by.When I worked for REI/Drayco after I got MACP/PACP/LACP certified in Marriotsville, MD, I then worked in a client’s office (RJN Group) in Vienna, VA. I then had a routine job making sure the Data the inspectors brought back met standards from the MACP/PACP/LACP manual. I also made sure that the pictures and videos from the sewer manholes that were inspected made sense. I liked it a lot as I knew what to expect although there were some twists and turns. I also did help out as an assistant inspector when they had needed it. I am currently working for StemTree a STEM tutoring center.Thank you for your interest.
