David Bergemann, Ph.D. Email and Phone Number
Born and raised in Germany in my early years before moving to Belgium where I completed my education and got both my Masters and Ph.D degrees. I added to my skills with an advanced training course in Bioinformatics before landing in Boston for a postdoctoral position at Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. My research interests are focused on understanding disease biology and fostering the knowledge needed to overcome current limitations towards new therapeutic approaches. With a focus on the complexity of regenerative mechanisms in vivo, I have used the zebrafish to unravel regenerative capabilities in the context of diabetes, heart failure and liver disease. Through my research experience I gathered strong expertise in molecular biology, genetic engineering, RNA-sequencing, immuno-labelling and imaging. Used to adapt to new thematics, challenge paradigms, push boundaries, develop and troubleshoot new research avenues; ranging from hands on bench work to efficient analysis and communication of results. My skills in fine work and micro-surgery are probably the most exotic ones.In addition to producing high quality results, I set focus on those being understandable at a glance and visually appealing. New ideas, molecular technologies and out of the box thinking are most stimulating to me. My experience in supervising and mentoring students and technical staff at different levels of their education provides me with a strong backbone in sharing and transmitting knowledge. Having lived and worked in international environments, I am at ease to communicate in various styles and languages with perfect fluency in English, French and German, and added basic Spanish skills. After a year devoted to personal development and fulfilling personal goals, I am looking for the next challenge and would love to join a dynamic team where I could apply my skills and learn new ones to push exciting projects forward and/or help clients achieve their goals.

Phd CandidateLaboratory Of Zebrafish Development And Disease Models (Zddm), Giga-Research Oct 2013 - Dec 2018Région De Liège, BelgiqueThesis Title : Pancreatic Beta-cell Regeneration in Zebrafish : Investigation of the Ductal Contribution and Involved Molecular MechanismsThe research project I focused on, under the supervision of Dr. Isabelle Manfroid, aimed at identifying how the process of beta-cell regeneration takes place in the regeneration prone zebrafish.During my PhD, I acquired a variety of scientific skills and knowledge of different techniques :- In vivo work with embryo, larvae, juvenile and adult zebrafish with the use of different transgenic lines (general maintenance and husbandry, treatments, injection, live observation and imaging).- Sample preparations and staining protocol improvements for whole mount in situ hybridization, IHC and IHC on sections.- Microtomy, Fluorescent Confocal microscopy (Leica systems) and image analysis. - (micro-)Dissection, cell dissociation, FACS.-PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR-RNA-sequencing sample production and RNA-seq result interpretations.-Design and production of transgenic models.-Familiarity with Crispr-Cas9 technique for directed mutagenesis. Subsequent analysis of genotype specific phenotypes.I actually initiated this project during my master thesis and had to set up new and to adapt existing protocols to fit specific needs.I had the opportunity to present my work, with diaporama or poster support, to a variety of audiences (lab and unit meetings, symposiums, national and international meetings) and I also supervised undergraduate and graduate students during their internships.Additionally I was also in charge of the stock management of non-reagent consumables in the lab.
