The research was financed by the Japanese government JSPS Grant-in-Aid funding and examines the extent to which creative industry firms – such as animation, design, and fashion – can carry out production offshore without compromising the authenticity of the product and the ‘national’ brand that they carry. The project combined research on global value chain management with marketing theories of country-of-origin with emerging concepts of brand authenticity. Interviews with firms in Japan, Denmark, and Italy were combined with consumer surveys in Japan. The project was on-going between May 2011 and March 2014 and had a budget of ¥2,540,000.Responsibilities included assisting Professor Adam Johns in acquiring relevant information in regards to the subject matter. -
