Leading Implementation and Innovation in Digital Systems to improve the effectiveness of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Leading the strategy, delivery and realisation of the Grand Challenge #2 project; which aims to deliver Just in Time (JIT) clinical trials supply through an automated pharmacy connected to a Qualified Person digital dashboard. I also lead the Digital Strategy for the MMIC.

For CPI I work across business units, managing the Complex Particles team within the National Formulation Centre and lead on the development of one of the Grand Challenges (Automated Just in Time clinical trials supplies: GC#2) for the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC).

Biography I joined the staff at Durham in December 2012 as a lecturer in Pharmaceutics, based at Queen’s Campus. I registered as a pharmacist in 2004 having completed my pre-registration training in hospital. I then worked as a junior pharmacist rotating through a number of clinical disciplines including oncology. After this I returned to research and undertook my PhD studies at Bradford University in solid state pharmaceutics. My thesis was entitled ‘Pharmaceutical Co-crystals; Design, Discovery and Behaviour’ and this work focused on rational form screening and co-crystal growth processes, with an aim to improving the properties of poorly soluble drugs. In 2009 I began working for AstraZeneca as a solid state scientist in the early development group (the interface between discovery and development) and he worked on an array of drug projects with a focus on oncology. During this time, along with continued solid form research, I developed research themes in amorphous forms, aqueous gelation, biopharmaceutics and formulation, along with a strong interest in compound design from a 3D structural perspective. I have a continued research interest in solid state pharmaceutics, poorly soluble drugs and the development and discovery of anti-cancer medications.Research Interests •Cancer Drug Discovery and Development •Improvement of Poorly Soluble Drugs •Solid State Pharmaceutics

My main responsibility was for solid form screening and selection; including the use of polymorphs, salts, co-crystals and amorphous forms and their patent requirements. I also gained experience in project management and elements of all pre-formulation activities. As such I have extensive knowledge of pre-formulation and expert knowledge of all form selection activities.

My PhD outlined the pharmaceutical uses of co-crystals and methods for efficient co-crytsal screening.
