I started my career at a Junior College and during that time and the years to follow I have over 100 college credits with no degree. I finished a 4 year Tool & Die apprenticeship and while working on that I built a new home acting as my own General Contractor. Six months later I was in the building business as the Sales and Marketing Manager of a local (3 State) Pre Cut Home Manufacturer. After several years, I was promoted to President there. I left to start my own Real Estate and Homebuilding business. After 8 years my 15 Realtor Member firm had garnered 12% market share in a market dominated by the big 2. I was offered the opportunity of a buyout/merger of my firm with one of the big 2. After declining the offer 7 times, an offer was made that enticed me to change my mind. I managed their largest office, after 20 years there and building the most productive Real Office in the Quad City area, I decided it was time for a new venture as an opportunity presented itself that required relocation. After much deliberation, my wife and I decided that this was the position of a lifetime as CEO of the Iowa Association of Realtors. As a Realtor, now going on 40 years plus, one realizes that if you are in Real Estate, you are in politics. As CEO, I spent most of my time lobbying for "Private Property Rights", not only in Iowa and Illinois but in Washington D.C. as well. This experience gave me the necessary ability to enhance my career even further. As, I made many friends in the Political arena that allowed me to become even more successful. I have been successful in raising the level of Iowa/Illinois Realtors commitment to their PAC as well as to their knowledge of how strong an alliance that the National Association of Realtors has become. Also the importance of their "Calls to Action" and the responsibility we have as Realtors to respond to them. They say "experience is the best teacher". I could not agree more!
