Consultancy and Support Services for Stator Core Testing~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The insulation between the steel laminations of large electrical machines such as generators and major motors in power stations is a critical factor in their reliability. The dominant method of testing this inter-lamination insulation was the traditional high flux (aka loop or ring) test, but is now most commonly the low power ELectromagnetic Core Imperfection Detector (EL CID) test, invented in the UK in 1978. From 1999-2008, David Bertenshaw was UK Operations Director and R&D Manager in Adwel and latterly Iris Power, responsible for all EL CID product design, manufacturing and support. He consequently has in-depth experience of the test method and interpretation of results, having advised and trained users in many continents and authored important papers on the subject.
