D. B.Pena is a portrait painter who trained at the H.S. of Art and Design,the Pratt Institute in NYC, at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design School of Fine Arts. At 16, observing Everett Raymond Kinstler conduct a portrait painting demonstration at the National Academy, Pena decided he wanted to carve out a career as an artist painting portraits. He pursued further studies with his teacher and mentor serving as Kinstler’s assistant from (1994-2004) and as studio assistant to Will Barnet at the National Arts Club NY. D. B. Pena has painted distinguished leaders in various professions. His philosophy is built on the principle that his reputation is earned and re-earned with every portrait. Mr. Pena has served as President of the Audubon Artists Incorporated, Vice President of the Artists Fellowship, Treasurer of the National Society of Mural Painters, He has held Memberships in the Salmagundi Club, the National Arts Club, the Allied Artists, the American Artists Professional League, the Art Students League, the United Scenic Artists LCL 829, the Society of Illustrators, & Players Club Art Committees’. His commissioned work includes U.S. Senator Howell Heflin, MO First Lady Georganne Nixon, Sean Connery Columbia Pictuers, Gregory Hines MGM, Sir Edwin Manton AIG, Brett Bothwell CEO. He is a recipient of a Greenshields Foundation the National Academy’s Benjamin Altman Prize and the Allied Artists Gold Medal of Honor, Mr. Pena’s studio is on historic Union Square, he resides in NYC with his wife, Alison.
