Next Generation Infrastructure (NGI) to support the vision held by the John Innes Centre (JIC) and The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL): healthy plants, healthy people, healthy planet (HP3), for achieving a safer, healthier and more sustainable future through the power of plant and microbial science. As a BBSRC supported initiative, I was initially appointed to lead the development of an Outline Business Case (OBC) on behalf of JIC/TSL and BBSRC to support £317m UKRI funding towards this C£400m investment. Following approval of the OBC, the role transitioned into overseeing the implementation of programme delivery governance and building resources and processes with the aim of realising the benefits declared in the OBC. This has been a very fulfilling period of my working career supporting the University as a Lay Member of Council and as a member of other sub-committees.

This is a major capital investment sponsored by BEIS & BBSRC in collaboration with three other founding partners, namely: Institute of Food Research (IFR); University of East Anglia (UEA) & Norwich & Norfolk University Hospital NHS Trust (NNUH) with a mission to create a new 14,500 sqm state-of-the-art science and medical facility to be known as the Quadram Institute. At the heart of the Norwich Research Park, the Quadram Institute will capitalise on its world-class cluster of bioscience institutes bringing together under one roof interdisciplinary research teams from the founding partner organisations where scientists and clinicians will collaborate in the area of gut biology, human health, food science and disease to develop solutions to worldwide challenges in health and food related illnesses.The Progamme Director has responsibility to orchestrate and lead the process of change bringing together the new physical environment with the organisational and the cultural changes necessary for the three occupying partners to deliver the benefits to support such a major commitment.Transition involving preparations for change, from the current state to joint occupation of the building by the NNUH Regional Endoscopy unit, NNUH/UEA Clinical Research Facility and Scientists of the IFR, will continue until mid-2018 followed by a planned period of transformation following occupation of the new building.
