David has worked in the rail industry for over 40 years, and has extensive front-line and consultancy experience in Operations, Safety, Marketing, Strategic Planning, Economics and Business Analysis, Commercial, Finance, and Human Resource functions gained while working with UK, European and Australasian rail businesses. Career highlights have included 4 years running the UK’s Transpennine Express inter-urban train operating company (in both the public sector, for British Rail, and the private sector for MTL / Arriva Trains), the role of Managing Director UK for Utrecht-based NedTrain Consulting, and a global commercial role as International Business Manager, Intelligent Rail for Lloyd’s Register Nederland. Since joining SYSTRA in 2018 he has delivered a range of technical and operational innovation studies for Rail Safety and Standards Board in the UK, and led a number of strategic and operational planning projects, including the creation of 30-year strategic plan covering all passenger, freight and port activities for Ireland’s national rail operator, Iarnród Éireann. He is currently based in Brisbane, and his most recent projects have included Independent Bus Advisor for South Australia, Validation of Knowledge Transfer for ARTC’s ATMS system and Systems Engineering Consultant Project Lead for KiwiRail’s Wellington ETCS Project.
