David Bitner is Head of Americas Capital Markets Research at Cushman & Wakefield. His research focuses on how macroeconomic trends, real estate fundamentals and dynamics in the broader capital markets interact to shape commercial real estate risks and opportunities for investors. David works closely with Cushman & Wakefield capital markets professionals and clients to further the firm’s goal of promoting thought leadership within the commercial real estate niche. David’s responsibilities include producing capital markets thought leadership content, and directing a program of market presentations, written analysis, surveys, forecasts, and data collection that will support the capital markets business and advance the strategic plan in Americas Research.

Along with one other associate, I work closely with the fund’s Chief Global Strategist across a diverse set of responsibilities. Our team has developed and now manages a first-of-its-kind, directly-invested $2bn currency program. I support this function by identifying attractive currencies for investment over 3-12 month timescales based on my own fundamental research and assessment of macroeconomic trends. Moreover, I craft related presentation materials for internal and external uses. Our team’s primary responsibility, however, is to monitor and evaluate global macroeconomic and market developments for sources of risk and opportunity to the fund portfolio. In this way, we constitute a component of the fund’s asset allocation and risk management strategies. My role is to conduct my own analyses as well as assess new data and research in a collaborative effort with the Chief Strategist to develop the fund’s view of global economies and financial markets. We further work together to communicate these views through a variety of written materials including white papers, quarterly letters and strategy/macro presentations. These materials enable our team to communicate with the Fund’s senior partnership and Board and also form a critical component in the Fund’s investor relations strategy.

I supported deal and client coverage teams within the Corporate Finance Group, responsible to the wider bank and to clients for advice in unusual and critical situations. The group’s core strengths are in M&A Structuring and Valuation, return of capital policy, alternative capital raising vehicles and capital structure optimization. As lead analyst for 100 clients spanning all industries, I was responsible for preparing timely, accurate analyses and presentation materials across a correspondingly wide range of subjects.
