David, a native of North Carolina, is a proud son to Dr. Grace Black, who earned her Ph.D. from Ohio State University when David was 9 years old. Dr. Black, former Dean of Fayetteville State University’s School of Business, was responsible for getting the school's business program nationally accredited, her legacy of excellence lives on today in the high national and international rankings awarded to programs in FSU’s Broadwell College of Business and Economics. David is the grandson of Garfield Curry who graduated from Atlanta Baptist College, known today as Morehouse College, and went on to the University of Chicago to achieve his master’s degrees in both Greek & Latin in 1903. For years, David Black Sr has been a noteworthy visionary with a passion for honoring the achievements of great leaders of his time and beyond. As an entertainment executive, David garnered millions of viewers with the creation of the national television production success Bridgebuilders in 1997, Carolina Soul in 1995, and later America Soul in 1996. As a real estate executive, David has amassed a multimillion-dollar real estate portfolio that he has used to self-fund the BridgeBuilders Global vision. As a renewable energy enthusiast, David created one of the few minority-owned utility-scaled renewable energy companies in the US, Sable Renewable Energy Inc., as a vehicle of opportunity for minority participation in the environmental sustainability field. David is also Chairman of the Board of Directors for the BridgeBuilders Fund with an estimated to reach $1B. David is a family man being happily married to a beautiful wife, Ellen Black, for over 20 years and is a proud father to a son David A. Black Jr.
