During this span of 10 years I have served as Area Controller supporting a variety of plants in California, Washington, Oregon and Hawaii. While no longer based in a specific plant, my responsiblities changed to oversight of and financial reporting for multiple plants. Key responsibilities included anual budgets, monthly forecasting, month-end closing, production and analyses of financial statements and reports, balance sheet reconciliations aand on-going testing of SOX controls.Brand name software used included JDE, BlackLine, Hperion, Excel, DAS and SAP.Job loss resulted from Corporate reorganization of responsibilities.

Based at a dynamic recycling plant in San Jose, CA I had full charge of all accounting and HR functions for two recycling plants in the Bay Area. In addition to my accounting responsibilities I worked very closely with the operations staff to develop real-time measures aimed at optimizing profit, productivity and positive inter-departmental communication.Surviving the initial chaos of this particular business environment and creating an environment of stability and integrity is one of the career achievements that I am most proud of.

I was hired by National Car Rental before these well known car rental brands combined forces in 1999. As West Region Controller based in Burlingame, CA I supported the Region VP of Field Operations for all West Coast locations and Hawaii. I also had direct management of a union clerical staff supporting field operations. My responsibilities included financial statement analysis, preparation of operating budgets, tracking and reporting key operation metrics, and functioning as the key liaison between field operations and Corporate on facilities, financials, HR issues and capital expenditures.My most impactful accomplishment was to implement real-time analyses and provide direction to field operations on attainment of revenue goals, expense controls and customer service metrics.I left this position in 1994 as consolidated operations with Alamo limited the scope of my responsibilities. My goal was to find a hands-on position as a plant controller with full charge of the accounting cycle to include production of financial statements.

I worked in this position at the end of the paging era and the dawn of the cell phone revolution.This was a small location where I ran all of the accounting functions as well as collaborated with the GM on all sales, operations and human resources issues. I really enjoyed the wide variety of responsibilities I had and the opportunity to have a positive impact on results. When I was hired the office was in disarray with receivables out of control. I was able to pull it all back together and eliminate the aging receivables problem by implementing a proactive collections process. The owner who was based in Florida sold the assets of the business in 1994 and closed the San Jose office.
