Planning Director
Current• Leading retail / mixed use planning function of the business, encompassing robust control of £9bn assets by value and planning projects across 150+ assets, averaging 70 planning applications per year• Contributing to strategic assessment of project pipeline, development risks, team structure and performance.• Maximising planning consent success across complex and highly contentious projects by defining and executing effective planning strategies • Ensuring efficient resource provision across the portfolio in selecting, coordinating and managing external planning consultants across the UK. This includes:o Delivering cost-effective service in reducing number of consultants from 20+ to core team of nineo Overseeing performance and project progress via six-weekly one-to-one catch ups• Informing investment decision-making by carrying out planning due diligence on new site acquisitions • Enhancing planning project progress and success by engaging and building relationships of trust with senior Council officers, community stakeholders and political decision-makers; selling project benefits and persuasively communicating company values and strategy• Influencing and advising on government policy changes relevant to British Land’s development pipeline as member of The British Property Federation (BPF) Planning Committee and High Street Adaption working group
