About David Blundin

Dave has been Founder and Chairman/CEO of 5 companies that have been named to Boston's top-10 Best Places to Work including internet marketplace company EverQuote (NASDAQ:EVER), fin-tech SAAS company Vestmark, and venture-incubator Cogo Labs. He has served on 26 private and public boards; has been a "day 1" CEO 4 times; and has been a "day 1" Chairman and author of the business plan 19 times. Dave has a background in AI from the MIT AI lab (now CSAIL) focusing on neural networks. His first company, DataSage, used neural networks to read handwriting, to classify medical images, and to analyze internet click-stream data, working closely with Amazon and Wal-Mart among others. DataSage became an early internet "unicorn" in 2000.Since 2007 David has been focused on venture investing, seed-stage incubation, and ethical use of AI. He currently serves as the Chairman of Link’s technology-incubation company, Cogo Labs, and on the boards of many of Link’s investments. He is also a general partner at Vestigo Ventures, a Fin-tech focused fund with seed-deals in Financial Infrastructure, and Consumer Finance. He has been the lead seed-stage investor in at least 20 internet, analytics, fin-tech, and big-data companies.Dave was named to MIT Technology Review’s List of Innovators under 35. He received a BS in Computer Science degree from MIT in 1988.

    DataSage was the first MIT neural network company and one of the first three overall (along with HNC / UCSD and Nestor / Brown). DataSage was acquired for over $1B in today's dollars in 2000. My original research was done at MIT on the Connection Machine - Danny Hillis' brilliant supercomputer, then the fastest in the world. We quantized in Assembly Language, and deployed on dedicated neural chips from Adaptive Solutions - the precursors to today's NVidia GPUs (very similar to Grok and Etched inference time hardware today). Way ahead of its time, but very successful nevertheless. We also developed the Data Mining Management Systems which is essentially the same concept as TensorFlow today.

    Cirrus Recognition Systems was one of the first three companies commercializing Neural Networks (along with Nestor and HNC) - and the first out of MIT. We crushed the mNIST problem for handwriting recognition using a new class of neural network that we developed - I wrote a lot of Assembly and C++ code. We then moved on to demand forecasting, market forecasting, and medical applications.
