My mission is for applied geological research, and my motivation to make a difference for future generations. I am passionate about geology, particularly engineering geology, geohazards, geothermal energy and earthquake ground response research and solutions. With 15 years experience working on geology projects across the UK landmass I have good working knowledge UK geology and associated geo-hazards and ground conditions. I am currently leading projects focused on shallow geothermal energy use (EU MUSE, Cardiff GeoObservatory). I'm also involved with capacity and training at our partner overseas surveys, for example in urban geology and landslide hazards in South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Sierra Leone. My educational background is MSc in Engineering Geology from Leeds (2005) and BSc in Environmental Geology (1st Hons). I'm currently developing innovative geo-energy solutions with monitoring environmental impacts and performance of groundwater ground source heat pumps in Cardiff. My research has focused on landslide characterisation (Boon et al 2015, Geomorphology), 3D mapping of ground conditions in urban centres (Cardiff, Belfast, Lower Hutt NZ) to support risk reduction and resilience.
