Initially employed in the Engineering section of Small Industries Division of the Industrial Development Authority (I.D.A.) using my language skills with foreign industrialists. From there to Dubai for an expansion feasibility study with Hamza Maritime, which involved travel to Yemen, Somalia and Djibouti. Next to Kenya where I worked for one of the largest travel, safari and conference organisers - the Bunson Group - in a range of management and financial roles, using French, German Spanish and Swahili. My French, and willingness to learn Dutch led to my next appointment with the Irish Livestock and Meat Board (C.B.F.) as Director for the Benelux countries, based in Brussels. Carried out a detailed market research of the meat industry and established a widespread network of useful contacts throughout the territory. Responsible for a marked increase in lamb sales. Organised major Irish meat promotions in Dutch, French and German. Supervised the launch of Irish frozen foods in two of Belgium's largest supermarkets.
