I was responsible for assisting with implementing plans of care for cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients. I helped to administer their employee wellness program. I addition to the above, I was responsible for assisting with the adult and employee fitness programs, including providing client assessments, taking body composition measurements, providing facility and equipment orientations, demonstrating exercise fundamentals, and taking blood pressure and heart rate measurements.I loved working with cardiac and pulmonary rehab patients as I knew that I was helping them to live better lives through exercise. I enjoyed helping to encourage and motivate reluctant patients, because once they started they would thank me for my help and support. Working with the rehabilitation patients helped me to understand that it is my role to help my community in every way that I can to help them to hopefully never need rehabilitation programs in the first place.Developing and delivering a requested self-protection seminar was as exciting as it was challenging. I had to develop a seminal that was one hour in length, one day, for four weeks. One of the greatest limitations was that physical contact and demonstrations was to be at a minimum for liability issues. I focused 90% of the course on the mental aspects of self-protection, and the participants LOVED that, as most programs are physically-based, and rarely deal with the mental side of self-protection or self-defense.I loved working on their wellness program. That allowed me to do what my focus is, which is facilitating the day-today operations of a variety of community outreach and health and wellness offerings, and planning and implementing health and wellness focused trainings, seminars, and programs.
  • Bowling Green State University
    Group Exercise Instructor
Bowling Green State University Jan 2015 - Dec 2015
    Bowling Green, Ohio
Initially I started working for the BGSU Department of Recreation and Wellness as a practicum student. During that time I designed exercise programs for staff and faculty, provided orientations of the recreation center and exercise equipment, provided exercise programming through personal training consultations for staff and faculty, and taught Tai Chi group exercise classes for students and classes for staff and faculty. I was later hired on as a group exercise instructor to teach Tai Chi classes for staff and faculty.I loved working at Bowling Green State University's Recreation Center during my practicum. The staff and clients were great. I looked forward to working at the rec center, because the clients that I worked with were open-minded and truly cared about what I had to say. They were dedicated and wanted to better themselves. I loved being able to provide orientations for clients that were new to the rec center, and introduce them to new machines and workout stations. It was always great to have a client come up to me weeks later and thank me for showing them something new, and for the tips and tricks that I showed them to improve their current workout routine. The time that I spent designing exercise programs was great. I enjoyed it because it combined my love for research and my creative ability, allowing me to put together a program that was science-based and unique for the BGSU staff and faculty.Teaching Tai Chi group exercise classes for student clients was fun and challenging. I had to carefully balance introducing the proper techniques and forms with introducing new material to keep their attention. It was interesting to show enough new content to keep their interest, while subtly introducing deeper aspects of Tai Chi without them knowing it.Teaching Tai Chi group exercise classes for staff and faculty was very different from the student clients, as the staff and faculty wanted to learn as much as I was willing to teach them.
  • Ohio Army National Guard
    Motor Transport Operator
Ohio Army National Guard Nov 2007 - Nov 2015
    Walbridge, Ohio
My primary responsibility was the operation of wheeled vehicles and equipment over varied terrain and roadways for support of combat operations. I oversaw and checked the loading and unloading of cargo on vehicles and trailers, and secured said cargo against inclement weather, pilferage, and damage. I managed entrucking and detrucking of transported personnel. I corrected vehicle deficiencies and supported the mechanics when a vehicle deficiency was beyond my ability. In addition to wheeled vehicle operation, I performed a wide variety of duties requiring strong organizational skills ,analytical thinking, and persistence.I loved the wide variety of experiences that I was able to have during both deployment and at home. I thrived when instructing courses for soldiers gearing up for deployment or their annual training. I loved working to prepare for missions, performing missions, and getting ready for the next one. I loved meeting so many people from all walks of life. I loved the life lessons that I experienced, and knowing that I am capable of so much more than I thought that I was.Because I am a fast learner that puts what I learned into action, I excelled at many tasks that were put before me. I loved having to learn something quickly, and then turn around and put it into use. I enjoyed helping my fellow soldiers that were not able to learn so quickly. I loved being a part of a team that worked together for a common cause. I thrived when I worked independently on a task, when many of my fellow soldiers found it challenging working alone.
