I attended the College of St. Scholastica; graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, receiving High Honors. My training in Cytology was at the Mayo School of Health Related Sciences, whereupon finishing the program, I obtained my ASCP certification. I have been a loyal employee at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center since my graduation from college in 1992. While working there, I have become certified in Thin Prep and SurePath. We had a variety of computer systems, of which I have become proficient: Cerner, Epic with SoftLab and SoftPath, and Epic with Beaker. Over the 28 years of being a cytotechnologist, I have screened a wide variety of non-GYN specimens, as well as GYN slides. I do multiple Fine Needle Aspirates on a weekly basis. I assist in all FNA’s, including immediate reads on thyroids and Electronic Magnetic Bronchoscopies.Over the years as the Cytology Supervisor, I have had several employees under my tutelage and have written policies and procedures with new sister facilities. I am very efficient and well organized. My current facility’s laboratory changed from Joint Commission to CAP; therefore I am currently a certified CAP inspector and have performed 5 separate inspections thus far. In August I passed my yearly proficiency exam.
