I will hit 35 years in practice next July. I operate a general practice with specific experience in transactional work (residential and commercial real estate and sales of business etc). I have experience with incorporations (mostly in Alberta but "off-shore" as well) and attendant contracts and some experience in intellectual property. I litigate at both the "small claims" and King's Bench levels (mostly chambers) but not appellate work. I have worked in criminal practice in the past but not recently. I take on family and divorce matters very selectively and work in the area of Wills and Estates regularly. I have held several board and advisory positions and have also been a volunteer judge for the Jessup International Moot Court Competition and am interested in international affairs. For fun I am actively engaged in writing what I plan on being my first book. I have previously been involved with the development of an animated comedic character/social critic as a kind of "every-man" (all of us non-Uber Mensch types) and still have some story-lines/scripts on the back burner. I am interested in creative writing but wrestle with the necessary "discipline" of it. I, with my spouse, follow the stock market and "study the entrails" of multiple overlays of moving averages as part of technical analysis and know the meaning of "Hodl". I used to show dogs (I once Grand Championed an Irish Wolf Hound) and am an avid proponent of responsible firearms ownership. My goals include more active involvement in business activity outside of legal practice, publish one written work a year till I dement or become too decrepit to do so, and make the most of the valuable relationships I am fortunate enough to have. Specialties: None, really. I actively resist the drive to specialization. Having the ability to look at matters in broad synthesis and make the connections between seemingly disparate elements is, I believe, an asset. Perhaps that is what I like about the study of history (my M.A.) All of everything mankind has ever said thought or done is meaningful for study. What we have been has a bearing on what we are. I LOVE James Burke's "Connections" series (first season) and regret not having engaged in formal study of Epistemology. We desperately more people with that skill set. These days, I am a big an of the James Webb telescope and all that it reveals. (Did you know that the math for working out what are now called the LaGrange Points was worked out as far back as 1750?)

At a level, law school is law school but what I found to be really striking was the degree to which law school was ivory tower academics.
