Senior It Technician

When I first started at the University of Southampton my role was to maintain and support 1500 public workstation area (Student teaching rooms) machines on the Universities main and satellite campuses as well as deliver, set-up & demonstrate, when required, AV equipment. In 2003 I was promoted to Senior Support Technician my main role was to oversee day to day running of old AV/IT technicians along with providing technical support alongside the existing staff via a helpdesk environment. After a few years my role changed slightly and at the time of my departure my role included deploying new IT hardware to members of the University, both staff and students, this involved new members of staff as well as transitioning existing members on to the Universities centrally supported IT system. I set up and initiate the remote rebuilding of the public workstation areas during the summer months via SCCM. Also monitoring and distributing work to members of the team via the Universities ticket management system (Remedy (ARS) followed by ServiceNow). I also kept an eye on the day to day activities of the deployments team and attend meetings when my manager was on leave or absent from the University. My role required me to liaise with other teams within iSolutions and other staff, both technical and non-technical in other departments and schools throughout the University.I Left in May 2015 to relocate to Australia, but due to a delay in moving I returned on a temporary contract to assist with the Universities Windows 8.1 pilot project. My role was to deliver/collect hardware and support selected pilot users who had agreed to test the Universities Windows 8.1 build.
