Director of Government Relations for the Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS). Represents the interests of MNPS, a public school system educating over 80,000 students at 158 schools across Metro Nashville, before both local and state Administrative and Legislative bodies.

Lead the external affairs efforts for a Nashville and Chattanooga-based non-profit dedicated to creating successful beginnings for individuals returning to the community from incarceration by providing resources and services to gain employment and build a full and free life. Oversaw external advocacy efforts with government and community partners, grant writing, and external communications strategey and efforts.

Was lead for Tennessee American Water's legislative and business development efforts. Responsible for the economic development, legislative and regulatory strategy for the Company in Tennessee.

Served as an instructor in Lipscomb University’s College of Professional Studies teaching courses in Applied Conflict Management; Management Principles for Leaders; Applied Leadership Ethics and HR Management for Leaders

Provided legal representation and counsel to organizations in health care and other regulated professions such as banking. Also acted as a general counsel on call for companies and organizations who do not wish to retain a firm or to employ their own full-time counsel. Services included but are not limited to:- Drafting and reviewing legal documents including contracts, compliance documentation, policies and procedures, and legal correspondence- Counsel and technical assistance with regulatory and compliance needs, such as requirements related to ERISA, the Affordable Care Act and its tax implications, HIPAA, and state-level regulatory compliance.- Assistance in contract negotiations- Conflict management and counsel on provider relations, corporate risk and liability issues- Assistance with human resources policies and issues- Property and lease management work- Basic Will, Living Will, and related agreement preparation and review- Assisting with and managing relationships with relevant federal, state and local government agencies- Community advocacy and government affairs support- Business-related file review and preparation

Serve as the counsel for a start-up mutual non-profit health insurance company in Tennessee and an affiliated company, Consumers’ Choice Health Plan, in South Carolina. Provide corporate legal counsel for all aspects of the company’s affairs with emphasis in areas of provider contract drafting and negotiations, management of litigation, employee and personnel issues, and federal and state regulatory compliance in areas of patient privacy and the requirements mandated by the Affordable Care Act. Serve as the liaison to the legislative and executive branches of Tennessee government. Member of the core management team that has built the infrastructure, policies and procedures of both companies.

Conducted contract legal work on major litigation projects.

Liaison to the Tennessee General Assembly for Gov. Phil Bredesen. Help develop and implement the governor's legislative initiatives. Help oversee and implement legislative initiatives of state departments and agencies including, but not limited to, the Departments of Finance and Administration, Commerce and Insurance, Human Services, Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, and the Bureau of TennCare. Managed the work of more than 40 departmental legislative liaisons.

Appointed by Gov. Bredesen Administration to direct all legislative activities for the Department of Commerce and Insurance. Oversaw the development and implementation of the legislative agenda and political policy for the Department on issues including insurance regulation, TennCare, regulated professions and industries, securities, and public safety. Advised department leadership on relations with members of the Tennessee General Assembly, industry and interest groups. Managed the efforts of two legislative liaisons and administrative staff.

Appointed member of Administration’s core legislative leadership team. Served as legislative liaison for the Department of Finance and Administration from 1/03-8/04. Helped draft governor’s first state budget. Developed legislative strategy for and helped pass bills regarding taxation, workers’ compensation, state lottery, revenue, administration of government programs and TennCare. Deployed in 8/04 to the Department of Children’s Services to help mitigate legislative fallout from ongoing litigation and other programmatic challenges. Assigned to Department of Financial Institutions in 12/05 to use past experience with financial policy issues to assist in developing and implementing department and administration legislative policy.

Drafted legislation and lobbied Tennessee General Assembly and gubernatorial administration for multiple clients on a wide range of issues including health care, taxation and commercial regulation. Consulted clients regarding political communications and political action committee contributions. Primary clients included HCA, Anheuser-Busch and Corrections Corporation of America.

Drafted legislation and lobbied state and federal legislators on banking and commerce issues. Assisted with development and implementation of political action committee strategy. Provided in-house legal counsel and legal consultation to association members.
