Emeritus Professor of Applied Optics. From 1990 to 1999 I was Head of the School of Applied Physics.

Head of School of Applied Physics, managing a department of eight academic staff. Professor of Applied Optics (from 1994). Taught at all levels of BSc courses. Research in precision optical metrology and biomedical optics. Duties included a Faculty responsibility for liaison with Europe, chair of the Faculty Research Committee, membership of Academic Board and its Subcommittee on External Examiners, membership of the University Research and Research Degrees Committees, membership of several disciplinary, appeal and appointment panels. Based in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey

Responsible for resolving optical problems and identifying diversification routes for the company. For eighteen months was also Acting Quality Manager, with a staff of eight. Based in Prestatyn, North Wales.

Responsible for all R&D and design activities of a multidisciplinary team of eight graduate physicists and engineers. Technologies included diamond machining of optical components, thin-film coating of optics, optical testing and optical metrology. Based in Dundee, Scotland.

Research into the use of lasers for ophthalmologic diagnostics, including the monitoring of retinal blood flow and intra-ocular pressure; Teaching of Masters level course in optics and of physics practical classes for undergraduate medical students. Based in Essen, Germany
