After 10 years of unsuccessful attempts by others to produce lab quantities it was the catalyst needed to execute my idea for getting spider silk.Of all the possible platforms, there was no need to look beyond the ordinary silkworm. Hundreds of millions of pounds of silk are produced every year. Spiders only make milligrams of silk, but inserting spider genetics into the silkworm uses this perfected production system to produce industrial quantities. Created the means for large scale production of spider silk fiber in the US. In 2012 wove and knit our first fabrics. Both fabrics a ballistic success landing us our first military supported R & D contract. Currently weaving better fabric and working to produce a next generation of even tougher silk.
