I joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1970 as a cadet at CMR/RMC;graduating with an Engineering degree in 1975. Following completion of flying training, I flew sea king helicopters from1977 to 1980, with a two year stint on HMCS Algonquin. I married Carolyne Gillard in 1978. In 1980 we moved to Kingston where I attended Queens U for medical school and in internship, completed in 1985. We had our two children, Sarah and Jon during that time. I was posted to Summerside as a Medical Officer and then Base Surgeon, Edmonton as Base Surgeon, then Trenton as a Senior Staff Officer and Regional Surgeon. I retired from the CAF in 1996 as a Lieutenant-Colonel. Moving to Cobourg, Ontario I started my "retirement" as a family physician and, in 2004, Chief of Staff at the Northumberland Hills Hospital. In April 2020 I ceased doing in-patient care and focused on office practice only. On. With mixed feelings I retired on June 01, 2023. It was a privilege to get to know and help so many people over my 27 years as a family practitioner.
