The ISIS Neutron and Muon Source synchrotron produces pulsed beams of neutrons and muons that allow scientists to study materials at the atomic level.As part of the graduate scheme, I rotated around four different groups at ISIS and did a placement at CERN. My first rotation was with Magnet Power Supplies, where I developed and built an active power factor correction circuit to improve the output quality and increase the efficiency of power supplies. In my second rotation with Controls, I consolidated and upgraded a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), which monitors the temperature of the magnets in the synchrotron, collaborating with various departments at ISIS. The third rotation was with User Support, where I designed and built a gas exchange controller for the IRIS experiment. During my final rotation, I updated the electronics that condition the signal from injector toroids for the Beam Diagnostics group.For three months, I worked for the SY/EPC/CCE group at CERN, where I validated an interlock panel for the LHC high luminosity upgrade and designed a couple of PCBs for their power converter controller FGC3 to interface with hardware in the loop testing (HIL) and interlocks.

Metricell is a leader in geospatial intelligence tools for the telecommunications industry. My role was to automate the collection and analysis of data using Python, working for EE and Ooredoo. As part of this, I wrote a report for EE on St Thomas’ Hospital using hundreds of thousands of data points as part of their Big Data project. I then presented and answered questions on my findings to EE. During my internship, I also built a 4G base station to test how company devices react to a range of scenarios before being deployed.

My sole task was to develop a software tool to automate the setup of multiple Android devices for network testing. I used JavaScript (Electron, NodeJS, and React) to create an intuitive user interface that gave asynchronous commands to the connected devices.
